Before anything is permanent
A proof, every time
You approve the layout before we cut. Nothing goes onto metal unseen.
Our own hand engraver
Not sent out. A graver varies pressure through the letter the way a pen does.
Any piece, bought anywhere
We engrave items purchased elsewhere after inspecting them. Complimentary on qualifying pieces bought here.
Rush available
Same-day or next-day is often possible on simple machine work. Quoted before we begin.
Hard metals as well
Laser cuts titanium, tungsten and stainless steel, which would blunt or skip a rotary bit.

Engraving FAQ
1. How much does jewelry engraving cost?
Machine and laser engraving run $1.50 to $2.50 per character at Billig Jewelers; hand engraving runs $2.00 to $4.00. A short inscription starts at $25 and a monogram at $40. Fingerprint engraving starts at $95.
2. How much does it usually cost to engrave a ring?
For a typical inside-band inscription of twenty to thirty characters, machine engraving works out to roughly $30 to $75. Hand engraving on the same text runs $40 to $120. We quote the exact figure before starting.
3. Can you get an existing ring engraved?
Yes, after inspection. We check the band's thickness, any stones and the overall condition first — a shank worn thin over years may not have enough metal left to cut safely.
4. Can I get my ring engraved after purchase?
Yes. Engraving is complimentary on qualifying items bought at Billig Jewelers, and we engrave pieces purchased elsewhere after inspecting them.
5. What should I avoid engraving on a ring?
Numeric dates in ambiguous formats — spell the month. Text long enough to fill every millimetre, which comes out cramped and unreadable. And anything you have not read through twice, since removing an engraving means removing metal.
6. How much does Kay charge to engrave a ring?
We cannot speak to another retailer's current pricing. What we can tell you is that ours is $1.50 to $2.50 a character by machine, that hand engraving is done here by our own engraver rather than sent out, and that you see a proof before anything is cut.
7. How long does engraving take?
One to two weeks for machine engraving, five to eight business days for hand engraving. Rush service is available for an additional charge, and same-day or next-day work is often possible on simple machine engraving depending on workload.
