Chain and clasp — $20–$125
Gold solder $25–$50, silver $20–$40. Clasp replacement $50–$125 depending on size and style. Jump ring or bail $50–$75. Polishing included.
Prong repair or rebuilding — $45
Per ring, based on the number of prongs, the metal and the stones. Worn prongs are how people lose centre stones, and they fail quietly.
Stone work — $50–$500
Tightening $50–$100 per ring. Replacement labour $50–$500 depending on the stone's type, size and value and the complexity of the setting.
Rhodium plating — $45–$150
Rings $45–$100, other pieces $50–$150. White gold is a yellow alloy under a rhodium layer that wears through in 12 to 24 months of daily wear.
Pearl restringing — $50–$125
Per knotted strand, based on length, pearl size and condition. Knots between pearls stop a broken strand becoming a floor full of pearls.
Cleaning — Free
Ultrasonic or steam, walk-in service, whenever the piece can be safely cleaned. Costume and gold-plated repair from $25.

Prong Repair and Rebuilding

Prong work starts at $45 per ring. Final pricing depends on how many prongs need attention, the metal, and the type and value of the stones.

Worn prongs are the single most common way people lose a centre stone, and they fail quietly. The prong thins from years of catching on fabric until one day it bends instead of holding. Have prongs checked every six to twelve months — it is a two-minute look and it is free.

Rhodium Plating

White gold rings are $45 to $100 to re-plate; other pieces $50 to $150.

White gold is not naturally white — it is a yellow alloy finished with a rhodium layer. That layer wears through in twelve to twenty-four months of daily wear, usually first on the underside of a ring, and the warm colour underneath starts to show. Re-plating restores it.

Pearl Restringing

Knotted restringing runs $50 to $125 per strand, based on length, pearl size and condition, and takes one to two weeks.

Pearls should be restrung when the silk starts to stretch and gaps open between the pearls, roughly every couple of years for a strand worn often. Knotting between each pearl is what stops a broken strand from becoming a floor full of pearls.

Costume and Fashion Jewelry

We repair costume and fashion jewelry, and gold-plated and gold-filled pieces, from $25.

Most fine jewelers turn this work away. We take it, because the piece your grandmother wore matters regardless of what it is made from. Base metals and platings behave differently under heat, so we will look at it first and tell you honestly whether a repair will hold.

Most stores that take in repairs do not fix anything on site. The piece goes into an envelope, ships to a central shop in another state, waits its turn, and ships back. That is where three-week turnarounds come from, and it is where pieces get lost.

Our bench is behind the showroom. The team includes an experienced diamond setter, a jeweler and polisher, a CAD jewelry designer, and watchmakers who work on mechanical, automatic, quartz and vintage movements.

Laser Welding for Heat-Sensitive Stones

We use laser welding where it is the right tool, including delicate repairs and pieces set with heat-sensitive stones.

A torch heats the whole area. Opal crazes, pearls scorch, emeralds and tanzanite fracture along inclusions the heat expands. A laser puts energy into a spot smaller than a pinhead, which means we can work millimetres from a stone that a torch would destroy — often without unsetting it at all.

How Long Does Jewelry Repair Take?

Standard turnaround is one to two weeks. Simple chain and ring work is often back inside a week.

Minor adjustments and professional cleaning can sometimes be done the same day, depending on the repair and the day's workload. There is no fixed cut-off — bring the piece in early and we will confirm at inspection whether same-day is possible.

Repair or Replace?

The arithmetic is usually simple.

Repair when the piece has sentimental value, when the metal is sound and only a component has failed, or when the repair costs less than a third of replacement. A $45 prong repair on a ring worth $3,000 is not a decision — and if you do not know what the piece is worth, a written appraisal answers that first.

Consider replacing when a chain has worn thin along its whole length rather than breaking at one point, when a plated piece has lost its plating over most of its surface, or when repair costs approach the value of the item and it carries no personal meaning.

At Billig Jewelers repairs start at $25. Chain soldering runs $25 to $50 in gold, prong repair starts at $45 per ring, stone tightening runs $50 to $100, and rhodium plating $45 to $100. Estimates are free and given before any work begins.

2. How much does it cost to have a gold necklace repaired?

Soldering a broken gold chain runs $25 to $50, depending on the gauge of the chain and how much of it has failed. Replacing a clasp runs $50 to $125. Polishing is included with both.

3. How much does it cost to have a gold ring fixed?

Prong repair starts at $45 per ring, stone tightening runs $50 to $100, and a head or basket replacement $125 to $250. Resizing starts at $50. Final pricing depends on the metal, the setting and the stones.

4. Can a jeweler fix a broken gold necklace?

Yes. A parted link or a failed clasp is routine bench work, usually back within a week. The exception is a chain that has worn thin along its whole length rather than breaking at one point — there we will show you the wear and talk about whether repair is worth it.

5. Is repairing jewelry worth it?

Usually, when the metal is sound and only a component has failed. A $45 prong repair protects a stone worth many times that. Replacement makes more sense when a chain has worn out along its length, when plating has gone over most of a piece, or when the repair approaches the item's value and it carries no personal meaning.

6. Can gold jewelry be repaired?

Yes, in every karat. Gold solders cleanly and anneals evenly, which is why gold pieces can be repaired repeatedly over a lifetime without weakening. We work in 10k, 14k and 18k, plus platinum and sterling silver.

7. What does an "L" stamped on jewelry mean?

On its own, a single letter is usually a maker's or sponsor's mark rather than a metal standard. Metal content is stamped separately — 14K, 585, 750, 925, PLAT. If the only mark is a letter and there is no karat or fineness stamp, the piece may be plated. Bring it in; we can test the metal while you wait.

8. Do you repair jewelry bought somewhere else?

Yes, after inspecting the piece. No receipt needed and no surcharge.
